Earlier this year, ObjectVideo released an updated OV Ready specification and the corresponding OV Ready reference application (which now includes an ‘event push’ functionality) to our partners to incorporate onto their devices. In addition, we provided the 1.0 version of our new web UIs, which we call the ObjectVideo management console.

For those who are unfamiliar with OV Ready, it is an ObjectVideo program that constitutes a protocol specification, reference code and compliance tools to allow interoperability between various devices and applications with respect to video analytics operations and alerting. More detailed info is provided on our website.

Even though that one-sentence summary is quite a mouthful, think of HTTP as an analogy. At a basic level, it is a protocol that specifies how web browsers and web servers can talk. It doesn’t matter if you are using Firefox or Chrome or IE, you can still talk to IIS or Apache. OV Ready is similar except the focus is on ObjectVideo OnBoard configuration, rule management and event output. We want to make sure all ObjectVideo-enabled devices (cameras, encoders, servers, etc.) can be used by a wide variety of management applications (VMS, PSIMs, etc.) regardless of type or brand.

ASIS 2009 thoughts:  I swung by the Genetec booth today and received my first Security Center demo.  This brand new platform administers all 3 applications, Omnicast, Synergis, and AutoVu, under “one roof”.  Very cool and the GUI blew me away.  I spoke with some of the Genetec sales team and their customers are understandably very excited. Looks like another home run from an all-star company…

The Pelco Tuesday night party at the Hilton was a huge hit. The Marketones was the Pelco “house band” and rocked Aerosmith, Bob Seger and Tom Petty, among others. Even more impressive, the band is composed entirely of staff from the Pelco marketing group. I didn’t once hear “Don’t quit your day job!”

Geoff Somerville, ObjectVideo director of strategic accounts, is well-known for his ability to mix business and fun in a highly effective manner.  He will contribute his thoughts to blogOV when inspiration strikes.

For the life of me I cannot remember a busier summer – at ObjectVideo or anywhere, for that matter. 

Right now I’m on the west coast producing a video with our friends at Cisco.  It’s an educational video that will cover all the salient points about intelligent video technology, then talk in more detail about product efforts underway.  It will be made available on-demand to their thousands of sales people and channels worldwide.  Then I’m back out west, a little further south, for ASIS next month.  There we’ll catch up with many of our partners and prospects and friends from the media – in person – which is always great.

At OV this has been a summer of partner success.  We’ve signed on 3 video management providers into the OV Ready Network since ISC West, and have additionally inked 2 new OEM deals, with 2 more we hope to announce soon.

Incoming traffic on our web site has increased significantly.  Logons to our partner information portal is up as well.  ObjectVideo has recently earned some of its best press coverage in recent memory.  (BTW, check out a bunch of new content and coverage on our News & Events page.)  And, various experts from ObjectVideo will be speaking at 4 more conferences and symposiums around the world between now and the end of the year.

I’d take a vacation but then might miss something.
